Ceramic Coating in Pune

Ceramic coating is a liquid silica (SiO2) layer that cures into a thin, glassy shell on your car's clear coat. It adds gloss, helps water and dirt slide off, and makes washing far easier. It is not scratch-proof. It suits new cars, or older ones after a polish. At our PinkStudio in Mangalwar Peth, Pune, it typically takes 1–3 days, depending on how much paint correction the car needs.

Why it’s worth it

  • 01

    Gloss you can see

Corrected paint under a clear, glassy layer looks deeper and wetter, especially on pearl whites and dark colours.

  • 02

    Water and dirt slide off

The surface is hydrophobic. Monsoon rain beads and runs off, and dust and mud let go with a gentle wash instead of a scrub.

  • 03

    Easier, safer washing

Less scrubbing means fewer wash swirls over the years. A rinse and a soft wash do most of the work.

  • 04

    Time against stains

Bird droppings, tree sap and hard-water marks sit on the coating rather than straight on the clear coat. You still need to remove them promptly.

What is a ceramic coating?

A ceramic coating is a liquid, usually built on silica (SiO2), that is wiped onto the paint and cures into a hard, glassy layer bonded to the clear coat. It is very thin. XPEL’s data sheet for its Fusion Plus Paint & PPF coating lists 7 microns, while Garware’s Premium paint protection film is about 190 microns. That makes the coating more than 20 times thinner than film, and it explains what a coating can and can’t do.

The white Toyota Fortuner in our ceramic coating reel shows the hydrophobic finish this gives.

What does 9H actually mean?

“9H” comes from the pencil-hardness test (ASTM D3363). Pencils of increasing hardness are pushed across a coated test panel, and the rating is the hardest lead that doesn’t mark it. Common pencil-hardness kits run from 6B to 6H; extended kits, such as Gardco’s 9B–9H set, and ISO 15184 sets go up to 9H, the top of the scale. “10H” isn’t a grade on the pencil scale at all, so it comes from a brand’s own test.

The test tells you the coating resists a pencil lead on a flat test panel, and makers rarely say what that panel was. It says nothing about keys, sand trapped in a wash mitt, or stones on the highway. A layer a few microns thick can add only a little surface hardness to the clear coat beneath it. It is not scratch-proof. Our guide to 9H vs 10H vs graphene coating goes deeper.

What does a ceramic coating do, and what doesn’t it do?

It doesIt doesn’t
Add gloss and depth to corrected paintHide swirls or scratches left underneath
Make water bead and run offStop water spots if hard water dries on it
Help dust and mud let go in a gentle washStop stone chips (that’s what PPF is for)
Give you time to remove bird droppings and sapMake the car scratch-proof
Cut down the scrubbing that causes wash swirlsReplace regular, gentle washing

Why does paint correction come first?

A coating is transparent and bonds to whatever surface is there. Coat over swirl marks and you seal them in, glossier than before. Even new cars often arrive with light marring from transport and dealer washes. So we inspect under studio light, machine-polish the clear coat to the level it needs, and wipe it clean before any coating goes on. You see the paint before and after, so you know what you’re paying for.

If chips are your main worry, see PPF in Pune or our PPF vs ceramic coating guide. Many owners combine them: film on the front, and a coating on top of the film and over the rest of the car.

How long does ceramic coating last in Pune?

It depends on the grade you choose and how the car lives. The sign to watch is the water: when rain stops beading tightly and starts to sheet off slowly, the coating is wearing. That usually shows first on the bonnet and roof, which take the most sun. Coating makers set their own warranty terms, often tied to maintenance. We explain the terms for the coating you choose before we start.

Glass, alloys and the graphene option

A windshield coating is a useful add-on: rain beads up and clears at speed, which you’ll appreciate on the Expressway in July. We cover it, along with alloy wheel work, on our headlight and alloy restoration page. If you’re weighing a graphene-enhanced coating instead, see graphene coating in Pune.

Why do ceramic coating prices in Pune vary so much?

Most of the difference is labour, not the bottle. A new car may need only a light one-step polish. A few years of open parking and brush washes can mean a multi-stage correction that takes far longer. Quotes also differ on the coating grade, the number of layers, and whether glass, alloys and trim are included. Our ceramic coating price guide for Pune shows typical market ranges. For your own car, message us the model and its age and we’ll send a quote.

How we do it

  1. 01

    Inspect under studio light

We look at the paint with you under the LED ceiling and point out swirls, water spots, scratches and any repainted panels.

  2. 02

    Wash and decontaminate

Foam wash, iron and tar removal and a clay bar lift the bonded grime that a normal wash leaves behind.

  3. 03

    Correct the paint

Machine polishing levels swirls and light marks in the clear coat. How many stages depends on the paint's condition, and we agree this with you first.

  4. 04

    Panel wipe

Polishing oils are wiped off so the coating bonds to bare clear coat, not to residue.

  5. 05

    Apply and level

The coating goes on panel by panel and is levelled before it flashes. Every panel is checked under the light for high spots.

  6. 06

    Cure and hand over

The car stays indoors for the first stage of curing. We hand it over with clear dos and don'ts for the coming days and the washing routine that keeps the coating working.

Frequently asked

How much does ceramic coating cost in Pune?

It depends on the coating grade, your car's size, and above all how much paint correction is needed. Our ceramic coating price guide shows typical Pune market ranges. For your own car, send us the model and its age on WhatsApp and we'll quote.

Does 9H mean my car won't scratch?

No. 9H is a pencil-hardness result: pencils of rising hardness are pushed across a coated test panel, and the rating is the hardest lead that leaves no mark. Common pencil-hardness kits run from 6B to 6H; extended kits (and ISO 15184 sets) go up to 9H. Either way, the result comes from a lab panel, not your car's paint. Keys, sand in a wash mitt and stone chips will still mark a coated car. For chips, you need PPF.

Does a new car need paint correction before coating?

Usually some. New cars often arrive with light marring from transport and dealer washes. A coating locks in whatever is underneath, so we check the paint under studio light and show you whether it needs a light polish or more.

How long does ceramic coating last in Pune?

It depends on the coating grade and on how the car is washed and parked. Brush car washes, harsh detergents and months of monsoon grime wear any coating down faster. Gentle washing and a periodic check keep it working. Asked in Hindi, coating kitne saal chalta hai? Same answer: the grade sets the ceiling, and your washing habits decide how close you get to it.

How do I wash a coated car? Are automatic washes OK?

Use a pH-neutral car shampoo, a clean microfibre mitt and the two-bucket method, then dry with a soft towel. Avoid automatic brush washes and strong degreasers. If your building uses borewell or tanker water, dry the car rather than letting it air-dry, because hard-water spots can still form on a coating.

Ceramic coating or PPF: which do I need?

If stone chips worry you, choose PPF; a coating is only a few microns thick and won't stop them. If you want gloss and easy washing, choose a coating. Many owners do both: PPF on the front, and a coating over the film and the rest of the car.

When can I drive and wash the car after coating?

You can drive it home at handover. Cure times vary by product. For example, XPEL's data sheet for one of its coatings lists 6 hours before it can get wet and 3 days to cure. We give you the exact first-wash date for the coating used on your car.

Can you coat the windscreen, glass and alloys too?

Yes. A windshield coating makes rain bead up and clear at speed, which helps on the Expressway in the monsoon. We cover windshield coating and alloy work on our headlight and alloy restoration page.
