Paint Protection Film (PPF) in Pune

Paint protection film (PPF) is a clear, self-healing polyurethane film that absorbs stone chips, scuffs and bird-dropping stains before they reach your paint. It suits new cars, highway regulars and anyone keeping a car for years. We work with Garware films, gloss or matte, front-only or full body. At our PinkStudio in Mangalwar Peth, Pune, a front kit typically takes 1–2 days and full body 3–5 working days.

Why it’s worth it

  • 01

    Takes the stone chips

Gravel thrown up on the Expressway hits the film, not your clear coat. A damaged panel of film can be replaced; chipped paint means a touch-up or a repaint.

  • 02

    Heals light swirls

The film's top coat is soft and elastic. Fine wash marks level out with warmth from the sun or warm water. Deep cuts through the film don't heal.

  • 03

    Buys time against stains

Bird droppings and tree sap sit on the film instead of etching the paint. Wipe them off the same day and the paint underneath is untouched.

  • 04

    Gloss or matte, your choice

Gloss film keeps the factory shine. Matte film turns gloss paint satin without a repaint, and the look reverses when the film comes off.

  • 05

    Keeps the factory paint original

On factory paint, film that is removed properly comes off cleanly, so the original finish is still there when you sell the car.

What does PPF protect against in Pune?

Paint protection film is a clear layer of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), held to your paint by a pressure-sensitive adhesive. It is soft enough to absorb impacts that would chip a hard clear coat. On Pune roads that means four kinds of damage:

  • Highway stone chips. On the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, gravel thrown up by trucks hits the bumper, bonnet edge and mirrors at speed. These are the chips you find after your first Lonavala run.
  • Bird droppings and tree sap. Park under the old trees in the peth lanes and you’ll know. Both etch clear coat if left to bake in the sun; on film, they wipe off.
  • Monsoon grit. Sand and slush blasted onto the lower doors, sills and the rear of the wheel arches.
  • Everyday scuffs. Door edges, the cups behind door handles, and the rear bumper top where bags drag.

Film won’t stop a dent, and a heavy hit can still tear it. What it does is take the damage onto a layer that can be replaced panel by panel.

How does self-healing film work?

Take Garware’s Premium film as an example. Its data sheet lists a 6-mil TPU layer under a 0.5-mil self-healing top coat, on a 1.1-mil adhesive: about 190 microns in all. The top coat is elastic, so fine wash swirls level out with warmth from a hot day or warm water. A scratch that cuts through the top coat into the TPU stays.

Gloss or matte PPF?

Gloss film keeps the factory look. Garware specifies its gloss films at above 85 gloss units on the standard 60° test. Its matte film measures 20–30 on the same test, which is why gloss paint comes out satin under it. Matte film suits two kinds of owner: those who want a satin look without a repaint, and those whose car already has factory matte paint and needs protection that won’t add shine.

Which Garware PPF grade?

We work with Garware films, made by Garware Hi-Tech Films, a Maharashtra manufacturer based in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. These are Garware’s own published figures:

Garware gradeNominal thicknessFinishGarware’s published e-warranty
Plus160 microns (5-mil TPU)Gloss5 years; cracking is the headline cover, and the card’s coverage clause also names yellowing
Premium190 microns (6-mil TPU)Gloss8 years, against cracking and yellowing
Matte190 microns (6-mil TPU)Matte5 years, against cracking and yellowing

That warranty is Garware’s, not ours, and its terms matter. Garware’s warranty cards say it is not transferable, covers replacement film but not labour, and requires maintenance every six months. They also set conditions on the paint underneath, the installation and the installer. The full cards are linked in the sources below, and we go through the terms for your grade before we start.

In short: film stops chips, and coating makes washing easy. Many owners put film on the front and a coating on the rest. Read the full PPF vs ceramic coating guide, or see ceramic coating in Pune.

Why do we fit PPF indoors?

Garware’s data sheets ask for a surface and air temperature between 20°C and 30°C, a dust-free area, and no direct sunlight while the film goes on. An April afternoon in an open Pune lot is well past that. At the PinkStudio the car stays inside, under an LED ceiling that shows every speck of dust and every edge before the film is laid.

Why do PPF quotes in Pune vary so much?

Two quotes for “full-body PPF” can describe very different jobs. Compare like with like: the film brand and exact grade, which panels are covered, whether the film wraps around the edges or stops short of them, whether paint correction is included, and who stands behind the warranty. Our PPF price guide for Pune shows typical market ranges. For your own car, message us the model and we’ll send a quote that spells all of this out.

How we do it

  1. 01

    Inspect under studio light

We walk round the car with you, note existing chips, scratches and any repainted panels, and agree on coverage, film grade and finish.

  2. 02

    Wash and decontaminate

Foam wash, iron and tar removal, then a clay bar, so the film sits on bare, clean paint. Any wax or coating comes off wherever film will go.

  3. 03

    Correct the paint where needed

Film shows whatever is underneath it. Swirls and light marks are machine-polished out before any film goes on.

  4. 04

    Fit the film indoors

Film is cut to each panel, laid on a slip solution and squeegeed out in our enclosed bay, away from dust and direct sun.

  5. 05

    Seal edges and check

Edges are finished and every panel is checked under the LED ceiling. Tiny moisture specks typically clear on their own over the following days.

  6. 06

    Hand over with aftercare

We explain the 48-hour no-wash window, how to wash film safely, and the maintenance schedule the film maker asks for.

Frequently asked

How much does PPF cost in Pune?

It depends on the film grade, your car's size and panel shapes, how much of the car you cover, and whether the paint needs correcting first. Our PPF price guide shows typical Pune market ranges. For your car, send us the model on WhatsApp and we'll quote. Asking in Marathi is fine too: PPF kiti kharch yeto?

Should I get front-only or full-body PPF?

Front-only covers the panels that take most stone chips: bumper, bonnet, front fenders and mirrors. It suits highway driving on a budget. Full body suits dark colours, new SUVs, a matte look, or a car you plan to keep for many years. Many owners start with the front and add door edges, handle cups and the rear bumper top.

Does PPF really self-heal scratches?

Light swirls in the film's top coat level out with warmth, from a sunny day or warm water. A scratch that cuts through the top coat into the film itself won't heal. If that happens, that panel of film can be replaced without touching the paint.

Will PPF turn yellow, and what does the warranty cover?

Modern TPU films are built to resist yellowing. Garware's published e-warranties run 5 years for Plus (headlined against cracking), 8 years for Premium and 5 years for Matte (both against cracking and yellowing). The warranty is Garware's, not ours. It isn't transferable, it covers replacement film only, it needs maintenance every six months, and it sets conditions on the paint underneath and on who installs the film. We go through the full terms with you before we start.

Gloss or matte PPF: will matte change my car's colour?

No. The colour stays the same; only the sheen changes, though metallic paint can look a little softer under it. Garware's data sheets put gloss film above 85 gloss units and matte film at 20–30, so gloss paint turns satin under matte film. Remove the film and the original gloss is back.

How long does PPF take, and when can I wash the car?

A front kit typically takes 1–2 days and full body 3–5 working days, including time for the film to settle. We confirm the exact time when you book. Garware's care terms say no washing for at least 48 hours after installation. After that, avoid pointing a pressure washer at the film edges.

Can I put ceramic coating on top of PPF?

Yes. A coating made for film can go on top of PPF to make it slicker and easier to wash. It doesn't work the other way round: film should go on bare, clean paint, and Garware's warranty terms exclude film laid over ceramic, Teflon or wax coatings.

Can PPF be removed later?

Yes. On factory paint, film removed properly with gentle heat comes off without harming the paint. Repainted panels are less predictable, which is why we ask about any repaint history before we start.
