Warranty & aftercare for PPF and coatings

The warranty on paint protection film or a coating comes from its maker, depends on the grade, and has conditions. Here's how it works, what voids it, and how to look after your car so the protection lasts.

Who gives the warranty on PPF and coatings?

The manufacturer does. It’s a limited product warranty: the product won’t fail in specific ways for a set period, provided it’s fitted and looked after as the maker asks. The term depends on the grade you choose. We explain the manufacturer’s terms for your film or coating before we start.

Two things catch people out. A product warranty covers defects such as cracking or yellowing, not a stone that tears the film, a scrape or an accident. And it usually covers replacement material only: Garware’s terms exclude the labour of fitting the replacement.

What do Garware’s published PPF warranties say?

We work with Garware films. These are the terms Garware publishes on its e-warranty cards, as of October 2026:

Garware filmTermCoversNotes
Plus5 yearsCracking (headline); the card’s coverage clause also names yellowingNon-transferable
Matte5 yearsCracking and yellowingNon-transferable
Premium8 yearsCracking and yellowingNon-transferable
TitaniumLifetime, first ownerCracking and yellowingSold through Garware Application Studios; fitting and maintenance at the same studio

Garware’s product pages also list Protect (3 years), Aura (4), Glaze (6) and Pinnacle (12). Full terms are on Garware’s PPF pages and in the Premium e-warranty card. The cards share these conditions:

  • No washing for at least 48 hours after installation, while the adhesive cures.
  • Maintenance every six months is mandatory to keep the warranty. The card’s schedule starts with a check at 15 days.
  • Cover starts on the invoice date and doesn’t pass to the next owner.
  • The film must go on factory (OEM) paint, fitted to Garware’s procedure by an authorised installer.

Wherever you get film fitted, ask for the e-warranty to be registered in your name with the film’s roll number. A claim depends on it.

What voids a PPF or coating warranty?

Garware’s cards list these exclusions:

  • Skipping the six-monthly maintenance.
  • Film laid over a ceramic, Teflon or wax coating. Film goes on bare paint; a coating can go on top afterwards.
  • Film applied on a repainted car.
  • Accidents, heavy impacts and misuse.
  • Harsh cleaning: solvents, rubbing compound, abrasive powders, clay-type cleaners, degreasers, rough sponges and paper towels.
  • A pressure washer aimed at film edges, or picking at an edge.

Garware also treats a slight loss of clarity, or slight lifting at edges and around rivets, as normal ageing rather than a defect.

Coating warranties work the same way: the maker sets the term for each grade, usually conditional on registration, periodic inspections and approved wash products.

What’s the aftercare schedule?

First 48 hoursNo washing (Garware’s rule). Small water specks under the film are normal and usually clear within a couple of weeks.Keep it dry for as long as the product needs, typically a few hours to a day or two.
First weekGentle hand washes only. Keep pressure washers off the edges.Typically no shampoo or chemicals while it cures. A plain water rinse is usually fine.

How should I wash a protected car in Pune?

  • Use two buckets: one with pH-neutral shampoo, one with clean water to rinse the mitt, so grit stays out of the wash.
  • Dry it. Borewell and tanker water leave hard-water spots, even on a coating.
  • Skip brush washes and the daily dry duster. Both drag grit across the surface. Ask your society cleaner for a damp microfibre wipe instead.
  • Bird droppings and tree sap: lay a wet microfibre cloth over the spot for a minute, then lift it away; don’t scrub. Summer sun bakes them on fast, and peth lanes have plenty of both.
  • Monsoon: rinse mud off the sills, lower doors and wheel arches before it dries at the film edges. Cover the car only when it’s clean and dry; a body cover over a wet, gritty car rubs the dirt in.
