Car wrap and colour PPF in Pune: a new colour you can take off

A car wrap gives your car a new colour or finish with film instead of paint. Vinyl offers the widest range of colours and finishes. Colour PPF is thicker and also resists stone chips. It suits owners who want a change without a permanent repaint. A full-body wrap typically takes 3–5 working days at our PinkStudio in Mangalwar Peth, Pune.

Why it’s worth it

  • 01

    You can change your mind

Film comes off; a repaint doesn't. When you sell, original factory paint under the wrap is far easier to explain to a buyer than a respray.

  • 02

    It protects while it styles

Vinyl shields the paint underneath from sun fade and light scuffs. Colour PPF adds real stone-chip resistance, and many grades have a self-healing top coat.

  • 03

    Finishes paint can't easily match

Satin, matte, metallic, gloss black and textured finishes, all without sending your car to a paint booth.

  • 04

    Partial jobs work too

A black roof, chrome delete or mirror and bonnet accents change the look and leave the car's main colour as it is on the RC.

What is a car wrap, and how is colour PPF different?

A car wrap is a film stretched over your car’s painted panels to change its colour or finish. There are two kinds of film, and they do different jobs.

Vinyl is the classic wrap material. Premium cast vinyl is thin and very conformable. Avery Dennison’s Supreme Wrapping Film, for example, is an 80-micron cast film, or 110 microns with its adhesive. It comes in the widest range of colours and finishes, from gloss and satin to metallics and textures.

Colour PPF is paint protection film with the colour built in. It is made from TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane), like clear PPF, and is much thicker than vinyl. For scale, Garware’s clear PPF data sheets list 160–190 microns including adhesive and top coat. That extra thickness is what stops highway stone chips. Garware, whose films we work with, sells a Coloured PPF in gloss, sparkle and matte shades. It has a self-healing top coat that lets light swirl marks fade with heat, and Garware gives it a 5-year e-warranty.

Wrap vs repaint: which makes sense for you?

Choose a wrap if you want a change you can undo. That includes a lease or loan car, a car you’ll sell in a few years, or factory paint that is still good and worth protecting. Used-car buyers in Pune check for repainted panels, and a respray often reads as accident history. A wrap keeps the factory paint intact underneath.

Choose a repaint if the paint is already failing. Peeling clear coat, deep scratches through to primer and rust all show straight through a film. A wrap is not a cure for bad paint, because film follows every chip and dent beneath it.

Choose colour PPF over vinyl if you drive the Mumbai–Pune Expressway often, or the car is a keeper. You pay more, but you get colour and impact protection in one layer.

Do you need RC endorsement for a car wrap in Pune?

Your RC records your car’s colour. Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act bars an owner from altering a vehicle so that the particulars in its registration certificate differ from what the manufacturer originally specified. An alteration made without the RTO’s approval has to be reported within 14 days so the RC can be updated. In practice, RTOs generally expect a full colour change, by paint or by a wrap that changes the colour you see, to be approved and endorsed on the RC. A mismatch can cause trouble at traffic checks, with insurance claims and when you sell.

The Act defines an alteration as a structural change, and RTO offices don’t all treat removable film the same way, so ask before you commit. If your car is on a loan, the RTO may also ask for your lender’s no-objection letter. We’ll guide you on RC endorsement before a full colour change, and you should tell your insurer once the RC is updated. Accent work such as roofs, mirrors and chrome delete, and clear or matte-clear PPF, keep your registered colour.

How long does a wrap last in Pune’s sun?

Film life depends on the grade and on which way the panel faces. Avery Dennison rates most Supreme Wrapping Film colours at up to 10 years on vertical panels but 2 years on horizontal ones. It also says long exposure to high temperatures shortens that. In a Pune summer, the roof and bonnet take the most UV, so they age first. Doors and bumpers last much longer.

Three things help most:

  • Covered parking
  • Removing bird droppings and tree sap the same day, which matters on peth lanes lined with trees
  • A gentle hand wash instead of a high-pressure jet at the film edges

With colour PPF, life also depends on the grade. Garware, for example, sets different warranty terms for each of its films. Before you choose, we’ll show you the maker’s terms for the exact film.

What does a wrap not fix?

Film is honest. It shows every dent, deep scratch and paint chip under it, and it won’t stick properly to flaking clear coat. We inspect first and tell you what needs fixing before the wrap. If your paint is good and you simply want a satin or matte look in the same colour, matte clear PPF may be the better choice. See paint protection film.

How we do it

  1. 01

    Inspect and choose

We check the paint for chips, dents and repainted panels, then help you pick a film and finish. Check any colour in daylight as well as under the studio lights.

  2. 02

    Sort out the RC first

For a full colour change, we'll guide you on RC endorsement before any film goes on.

  3. 03

    Deep clean the paint

Every panel is washed, decontaminated and degreased so the adhesive bonds to clean paint, including edges and door shuts that will be wrapped.

  4. 04

    Fit it indoors

Film goes on panel by panel inside the PinkStudio, away from dust and direct sun, which is how film makers say it should be applied.

  5. 05

    Post-heat the edges

Edges and recesses are heated so the film sets into shape and doesn't lift back in the summer heat.

  6. 06

    Hand over with care rules

We walk you through washing, what to avoid in the first week, and what to do if an edge ever lifts.

Frequently asked

Is a car wrap legal in Pune?

The film itself is not the issue; your RC is. Your car's colour is printed on it, and RTOs generally expect a full colour change, whether by paint or by wrap, to be approved and entered on the RC. Accent wraps and clear or matte-clear PPF keep your registered colour. Before a full colour change, we'll guide you on RC endorsement and tell you upfront what's road-legal.

How long does a vinyl wrap last in Pune?

It depends on the film and the panel. Avery Dennison rates most Supreme Wrapping Film colours at up to 10 years on vertical panels but only 2 years on horizontal ones. Those figures assume mild European and North American conditions, and Avery says long exposure to high temperatures reduces them. Pune's summer sun is hardest on the roof and bonnet, so covered parking helps a lot.

Wrap vs repaint: which costs less?

It isn't a straight comparison. A cheap repaint can cost less than a good wrap, but it is permanent and shows up at resale. Colour PPF costs more than vinyl because the film is thicker and more expensive. Price depends on your car's size, the film and how complex the panels are. Message us your car model and we'll send a quote. Or, as many ask us, *gaadi wrap karaychi ka repaint?* We'll help you decide.

Will the wrap damage my paint when it comes off?

On factory paint in good condition, quality cast vinyl and PPF are made to peel off cleanly within their rated life. The risk rises on repainted panels, weak touch-ups, or film left on long past its life, where the adhesive can lift paint. That's why we check for repainted panels and tell you what we find before we start.

Can you wrap only the roof, bonnet or mirrors?

Yes. A gloss-black roof, bonnet or mirror accents and chrome delete on window trims are common partial jobs. They typically take a day or so; we confirm the time when you book. Because the car's main colour stays the same, they usually don't raise the RC question that a full colour change does, and we'll tell you if yours might.

Can I get a matte look without changing my car's colour?

Yes. Matte or satin clear PPF changes the finish but keeps your colour, so a white car stays white on the RC. Garware makes a matte PPF. See our paint protection film page for how it works.

How do I wash a wrapped car?

Wait about a week before the first wash. Then hand wash with a pH-neutral shampoo, keep pressure-washer jets away from film edges, and never wax or polish matte or satin film. Bird droppings and tree sap should come off the same day, especially in summer.

Should I ceramic coat a wrap?

It's optional. A film-safe coating makes a wrap easier to wash and helps matte and satin films resist staining. Ask us which coatings suit the film you choose.
